Poor America (for once). Virtual band Gorillaz will tour America this year without their cartoon hologram alter egos. Band mastermind Damon Albarn told MTV, “You can’t, at this point, do holograms.” As the opening act at the Grammys, Albarn believes that while it looked good on TV, it didn’t quite have the same effect live. “We had an invisible film pulled across our stage, and you project onto that and put smoke behind it. It’s Victorian technology, actually. We couldn’t play with any bass or any sound because it would vibrate (the film), so it was really quiet . . . no one could hear us in this huge, great arena. I just thought, ‘You know what? Sometimes, just keep it simple.’”PHOTO CREDIT: weblastout.com
