Avatar raking in the cash

James Cameron’s “Super Blue Smurf movie”, Avatar, is creeping up on Titanic (also directed by James Cameron) as the first serious challenger in 12 years for the title of highest-earning film of all time. Avatar has raked in just over 1 billion dollars after only 17 days on the big screen worldwide, and is now the fourth-highest-earning film. It still has to pass Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest ($1,06 billion), Lord of the Rings: Return of the King ($1,1 billion) and Titanic ($1,8 billion) to claim the top spot – but since Avatar made $1 billion in just 17 days, box office-watchers are sure it will at least get to the number two spot on the all-time chart, ensuring that James “King of the World” Cameron ends up claiming the top two films of all time, whether Avatar manages to topple Titanic from its throne or not!
